Through my program, Heart to Heart Horsemanship, I build true connections between horse and rider—relationships based on trust, feel, and clear communication.

I’ve competed internationally, reaching the #1 spot in the 2018 FEI Reining World Rankings and qualifying twice for the prestigious FEI World Equestrian Games representing Team Chile. My career is marked by numerous world, national championships and high-level performances across multiple disciplines.

After training in Europe, Australia, and South America, I moved to the U.S. to continue my dream—and earned my residency doing what I love. Today, I’m based at in West Jefferson, Ohio, where I train, teach, and start world-class horsemanship to riders and horses of all breeds.

Marcelo offers personalized training for horses of all levels, focusing on building trust, balance, and athleticism but also to teach riders of all backgrounds and levels of experience in:

• Working Equitation (Intro to Masters Level)

• Dressage (basic to advanced)

• Hunters & Jumpers (flatwork, grids, and course work)

Marcelo supports the IEA team’s training program while Elyce Yoder works directly with the kids and Team Members. Together, they prepare riders for competition in:

Heart to Heart Horsemanship: From Colt Starting to Master Level Horses

At Marcelo Guzman Performance Horses, we start with solid groundwork to build a foundation of trust, respect, and safety. Every horse begins with a clear and patient program designed to transform untouched colts into confident, well-mannered partners on the ground.

From there, we move into a carefully structured under-saddle foundation that blends both English and Western techniques but mainly focus in classical dressage. This approach helps young horses develop rhythm, relaxation, connection, impulsion, straightness, and ultimately collection without losing their natural spirit or temperament towards real life situations.

Marcelo designs a personalized training plan for each horse, focusing on developing their individual talents while gently improving weaker areas. He especially enjoys starting 2 or 3 year old, untouched young horses, giving them a strong beginning that prepares them physically and mentally for success in Working Equitation, Dressage, and Jumping.

Marcelo believes in rewarding willingness before shaping performance. He understands that for a horse to truly reach its full potential, we must train not just the body, but also their minds in order to conquer their heart. True partnership comes from consistency, time, and a rational, progressive plan that respects each horse’s nature.

Colt Starting

Marcelo starts young horses using natural horsemanship and classical dressage principles to build trust, respect, and clear communication from the ground up. Once a solid foundation is established on the ground, he introduces basic dressage elements to develop balance, rhythm, and softness. From there, he blends in modern western techniques to create a well-rounded, confident colt prepared for any discipline and ready to continue growing into a reliable performance partner.

Training & Showing

Marcelo specializes in preparing horses and riders for success in Working Equitation, from entry-level to the Masters division. With years of international show experience, he offers training and coaching tailored to each horse’s stage of development whether you’re just starting out or aiming to compete at a high level.

We welcome horses with backgrounds in Reining, Cowhorse, Roping, Dressage, or Jumping, helping them transition smoothly into Working Equitation through a balanced, versatile training approach. Marcelo’s program focuses on precision, relaxation, and connection in all trials of working equitation: dressage, ease of handling, speed and cow trial.

Lesson Program

Riders of all levels Non-Pros and Pros are always welcome!

We offer private lessons on your own horse, or you can choose to ride one of our experienced, Open-level horses. Whether you’re just starting your Working Equitation journey or preparing for the show pen, Marcelo provides personalized instruction to help you and your horse grow with confidence and harmony.
